PDC invites researchers and practitioners working on participatory design, as it is encountered and discussed in multiple fields including, but not limited to: HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), CSCW (Computer Supported Cooperative Work), CSCL (Computer Supported Collaborative Learning), ICT4D (Information and Communication Technology for Development), Science and Technology Studies (STS), Social and Community Informatics, Development Studies, Media Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Design, Architecture, Spatial planning, and Arts. Held every two years since 1990, the conference constitutes an important venue for international discussion of the collaborative, social, and political dimensions of technology production and use.
In 2022, the 17th Biennial Participatory Design Conference (PDC) will be hosted in the UK for the first time in Newcastle upon Tyne. However, due to the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic, the conference will also be a globally distributed conference, with provision of online participation and by establishing multiple PDC Places, smaller gatherings of PD researchers and practitioners in different parts of the world all at the same time.
Our theme for 2022 is Embracing Cosmologies: Expanding Worlds of Participatory Design. Read the complete call for papers and learn about the submission categories and deadlines.
